chool’s Military Initiatives Honored for being “Better for Veterans”
Dec 20, 2017 – Middletown, Conn.—Middlesex Community College has been named a Silver Level Military Friendly® School Award recipient in the category of Small Community College—Connecticut for 2018. Victory Media, originator of the family of Military Friendly® employment, entrepreneurship, and education resources for veterans and their families, published this special award at https://militaryfriendly.com/schools/middlesex-community-college-middletown-ct-06457/. For more than a decade, these ratings have set the standard for colleges demonstrating positive employment and education outcomes for veterans and their families. MxCC has been recognized as a Military Friendly School since 2012 and currently enrolls about 175 student veterans.
“Middlesex Community College is approved for the training of veterans and their families under chapter Title 38. Eligible students may use VA benefits to pursue a degree or certificate program. We offer tuition waivers for veterans and reserve or active guard members who are eligible,” said Peter Galgano, veterans outreach coordinator. “We also have a Veterans OASIS Center, a dedicated space on campus for veterans and military members to network, socialize, and study. The center has scheduled workshops with the Department of Labor and the VA. We also have a Veterans Club and community programs to support our veterans.”
The Silver Medal is defined as a school scoring within 30 percent of the last-ranked (10th) institution. Military Friendly® Awards showcase the most powerful and effective programs of more than 1,200 post-secondary schools that were designated as “Military Friendly®” in November. Of those designated, 541 schools have been recognized for excellence in different categories, highlighting not only “Are you Military Friendly®?” but “How Military Friendly® are you?” The names of awardees are published online at https://militaryfriendly.com and will be printed in the December issue of G.I. Jobs® or Guide to Military Friendly® Schools.
