Middlesex Community College is excited to announce today the results of its second annual Red Moon Fest fundraiser. Proceeds from the event total $25,000 in donations, surpassing the amount raised at last year’s event.
More than 220 guests enjoyed local beers and wine, sweet cupcakes from Nora Cupcake Company, and flavorful hors d’oeuvres, while they mingled and bid on silent auction items. The night culminated with an exciting live auction with many high-end prizes, moderated by Rick Eriksen, professor multimedia/digital arts.
“On behalf of the Middlesex Community College Foundation, I would like to thank all who attended the Red Moon Fest, as well as our sponsors for the evening, everyone who donated auction items, as well as our committee volunteers for their months of planning and preparing,” said George Eames IV, chairman of the Middlesex Community College Foundation. “The overall success of this event would not have been possible without their collective efforts, and demonstrates their generous support of the College, its students, and new endeavors like the Center for New Media.”
The event’s guest of honor was Joe Franco, retired media producer at ESPN. Franco introduced the College’s brand new Center for New Media, which was the focus of the celebration. Of the $25,000 raised, donations and pledges to be a founding member of the Center for New Media totaled $9,000.
“Though Middlesex Community College was awarded a sizable grant for the creation of a new media studies center, the grant does not offer student support such as scholarships,” said Richard Lenoce, director of the Center for New Media. “With these donations, we now have the opportunity to support students financially as they go through these programs and reach their career goals.”
Financial supporters of the new Center will be awarded a production team credit on the interactive multi-screen supporter wall, which will be located at the entrance of the Center. The supporter wall will be composed of multiple LCD screens displaying the names and titles of the funding production team members. Anyone wishing to become a founding member of the Center for New Media should contact the Middlesex Community College Foundation at 860-343-5789.
