On Thursday, October 23, Senator Blumenthal (D-Conn.) addressed guests at Middlesex Community College’s Center for New Media Grand Opening. Construction was recently completed on the 5,718 square-feet remodel, which includes a high-definition broadcast studio, a video control room, an audio and music recording control room, editing suites, a green room, a high-definition screening room, and three state-of the-art computer lab classrooms. The new facility also includes an FCC-approved radio station, WMDX 107.5 FM.
Middlesex Community College is a recipient of a $2.5 million U.S. Department of Labor Trade Adjustment Act Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) Grant for a New Media Studies initiative. This new initiative is designed to meet the state’s needs for skilled workers in new media industries. Besides funding a space on campus for the Center, this grant has funded curriculum development and implementation for four key programs at MxCC: Broadcast-Cinema, Communication, Fine Arts/Graphic Design, and Multimedia.
