Professionals representing the fields of Health Information Management (HIM) and Information Technology (IT) will be on hand for The Network Event at the Pavilion in Founders Hall at Middlesex Community College on Monday, November 17, from 6-7:30 pm.
The event, which was originally created by the MxCC Computer Club with the purpose of connecting students with working professionals, has recently expanded to include the fast expanding HIM program at the college. The Computer Club will host this year’s event in partnership with the Health and Life Science Career Initiatives (HL-SCI) team.
“The IT/HIM Network Event gives students the opportunity to meet one on one with employers to discover and explore careers in Information Technology and Health Information Management,” said Carolyn Sommers, HL-SCI Recruitment & Placement Coordinator at MxCC. “Students also have the ability to connect with those employers in the future to find out about potential jobs at the companies or summer internships.”
Participants in this year’s event will have an opportunity to network and attend small informational sessions with professionals from companies such as Apex Technology Group, Allstar Software Systems, Traveler’s Insurance, Northeast Utilities, Global Help Desk Services, and Middlesex Hospital to name a few.
“As a club, this event reminds us of our goal to help students coming through Middlesex to leave with opportunity, and a foot in the door of the IT world,” said Matthew Pezzente, President of the MxCC Computer Club.
“Because this is a very informal, laid back event, students are really allowed to ask questions that they might not be comfortable asking in the real [work] environment…one of the best things I like to see, are students building their network of contacts, and getting jobs in fields they like.”
The Network Event has become a center for local companies and employers to acquire IT and HIM talent; it is also a great opportunity for students to gain insight into how to write a resume, interview skills, and the MxCC degree and certificate offerings aligned with HIM and IT career tracks.
MxCC’s IT program gives students the knowledge and skills to analyze, develop, design, test, and maintain computer and internet-based applications and custom programs. Students in the HIM program are involved in the design, collection, storage, utilization, and transmission of data that is required to meet professional and legal record keeping requirements of the healthcare delivery systems.
Registration for The Network Event is preferred but walk-ins are welcome. Please RSVP to Donna Hylton at firstname.lastname@example.org or Carolyn Sommer at email@example.com and visit the HL-SCI website for more information about the programs.
