Meet the students in the Legislative Internship Program! This year, MxCC has three students who will are in the Legislative Internship Program for Spring 2014. The Legislative Internship Program gives MxCC students direct experience working for a legislator at the Connecticut State Capitol Building in Hartford.
Meet Emily Labissoniere from Meriden, who is interning for State Senator Bob Duff. She just graduated last May with an associate’s degree in human services. She was interested in this program because she wants to see the process of politics and see how legislation affects her career path. Besides school and her internship, Emily works at the YMCA. She also loves decorating cakes and playing volleyball.
Meet Emily Merriam, a human services major from Haddam, who is interning for Representative Theresa Conroy and Representative Tom Vicino. Emily wanted to become a legislative intern because she feels that it’s crucial to understand the legislative system, and how it works in order for her to better serve the community as a future social worker. Emily is a devoted wife and a proud mother of two amazing boys. She is an active member of the social action committee at her Temple. She enjoys teaching indoor cycling and running in 50 mile ultra-distance races.
Meet Linda Pent from Haddam, who is interning for Representative Kim Rose. She is a graduate of MxCC’s criminal justice program, and is participating in the Legislative Internship program to get an understanding of the role legislature plays in shaping rules that govern our society. Outside of school, Linda is a mail carrier for the US Postal Serivce and she is a snowboard instructor. In her spare time, she loves spending time with friends and family and hiking through the woods.
