For the past nine years Middlesex Community College has held a 5K to benefit student scholarships and programs. To celebrate the tenth anniversary of the race, MxCC is expanding the event, making it more exciting for participants.
New this year, there will be a 10K race in addition to the 5K race with new courses for both, as well as a family-friendly 4K fun walk. At the finish line, there will be a “tent city” of exhibit booths by sponsors where runners, walkers, and spectators can visit the booths after the race.
The scholarship road race theme encourages runners and walkers to run or walk as a team, and connect as a healthy community. This is especially topical as October is nationally recognized as breast cancer awareness month. Middlesex Community College partnered with Middlesex Hospital years ago to develop one of the most recognized radiological technologist programs in the state’s community college system. One of the primary methods for treating breast cancer is through radiation treatment, and this treatment requires both well-trained imaging specialists, including doctors and technologists. This year, the MxCC Foundation will be donating $2.00 from every registration fee collected toward program enhancements of the radiologic technology program at MxCC, while the remainder to the profits will benefit general student scholarships and programs at MxCC.
The tenth annual MxCC Foundation Scholarship Road Races for walkers and runners will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Middlesex Community College, 100 Training Hill Rd., Middletown. Post-race activities include a performance by the Pratt & Whitney Screamin’ Eagles Jazz Band, as well as an awards ceremony with light food and refreshments.
