Looking for ways to get involved this holiday season? Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), MxCC’s honor society, is collecting nonperishable food items for Middletown’s Amazing Grace Food Pantry until December 17. You can drop off items in the many collection boxes around campus.
Lisa Gangone, president of the MxCC chapter of PTK, said that they have already donated 170 pounds of food to Amazing Grace. “We started as soon as we could this semester because of the accelerated need in the community in this difficult economy,” said Lisa. Lisa (pictured here) is a business administration major. She has been involved with PTK since Fall 2010 and was the vice president last year.
PTK is planning more ways for students to get involved this school year. They will be doing their yearly Munson’s candy drive for PTK scholarships, which are donated to the school. They are also working on putting together a bottle drive for Relay for Life. Yesterday, PTK held a bake sale in the student lounge to kick-off fundraising for Habitat for Humanity.
Phi Theta Kappa is an international honor society of the two-year college. It represents scholastic success and academic excellence at two year colleges. High academic achievers who have a minimum of a 3.65 cumulative average and who have completed 15 credits are eligible to become a member. Visit www.ptk.org for more information.
