On Wednesday, over 100 students, faculty, staff, and community members gathered together at MxCC for an International Day celebration, coordinated by the President’s Committee on Diversity. This year’s event highlighted the continent of Asia, complete with ethnic food, music, and dancing. Attendees were able to sample foods, view maps, touch trinkets, and speak to people who have life experiences very different than their own.
The All Connecticut Chinese Chorus (ACCC) performed a Chinese folk song and a Tibetan folk song. The ACCC is made up of faculty, staff, students, and alumni from Connecticut State Universities, Connecticut Community Colleges, the University of Connecticut, and Yale University.
Xi Wang of Xi Wang Chinese Dance School performed a traditional peacock dance. Wang is an exceptional dance soloist, a leading dancer, and an artistic director/choreographer of Chinese classical and ethnic dance.
The audience also enjoyed a Tai Chi and Sword demonstration by Barbara Chan, a former colleague and an alumnus of MxCC. She is one of about 35 Tai Chi Instructors and Wushu (Chinese Martial Arts) Judges certified by the U.S.A. Wushu Kungfu Federation in the country.
