Workplace violence is an occupational hazard that affects all aspects of the healthcare industry and Emergency Medical Service providers are especially vulnerable. With attacks on EMS workers on the rise nationwide, protecting yourself as you care for patients in the field is essential. This course provides EMS workers with the skills needed to defend themselves against assaults. Scene assessment and scene safety are covered, with a focus on co-worker communication and understanding the body language of the aggressive individual. Verbal de-escalation and defensive tactics are taught. The tactical techniques taught in this course are based on principles and solid fundamental skills that can be applied on the scene and in an ambulance.
