Don Finkle

don-2Don is a communication major from North Branford. Sports have been Don’s life for as long as he can remember. Being named after Don Mattingly, captain and first baseman of the New York Yankees during the 1980s and 1990s, it was pretty clear that baseball was his first love. He played baseball all his life, but after a sports injury, he realized he wasn’t going to play professionally. So he turned to the broadcast side of sports, excelling in all journalism and communication classes during high school.

After high school, he turned his sights to WFSB, landing an internship in the sports department. At the age of 18, he was one of the youngest interns. He covered eight high school basketball state championships, one hockey, and four softball state championships. He also covered the Connecticut Huskies women’s basketball national championship run, up to the Elite Eight.

Don also had the opportunity to intern with Yale University’s football team, filming all their home games. He even had the chance to work with NBC Sports network for the Cornell-Yale football game.

In his free time, Don writes for a blog called Florio Facts, which is run by a former high school classmate. He has written several articles for Florio Facts including the Yankees, Rangers, the Alex Rodriguez saga, and general sports opinion pieces. Besides blogging, Don loves playing golf, biking and hanging out with his friends and family.

His future goal is to work as an on-air talent for a major sports media network. His dream is to be the play-by-play announcer for the New York Yankees, and one day become a Hall of Fame Broadcaster. Currently, Don works part-time while he seeks another internship. He hopes to transfer to a four-year school after he graduates from MxCC.
