Where are you living now?

I am living in Meriden, CT.

Where do you work?

I work at WTNH News 8 in New Haven, CT.

What is your job title and duties?

I am an editor.  Mostly for Good Morning Connecticut and CT Style, but I do work on other shows through the day if I can. My main job duties are to edit all the video for the morning shows Sunday through Thursday. I also edit news packages throughout the week for other shows that may air in the evening or another day. I also am responsible for archiving the video after the shows are over in case producers need to access that same video from our archive system years later. If a story that was originally local goes national, the editors are responsible for sending any new media having to do with the story to our affiliate stations and/or ABC.

What originally brought you to MxCC?

I had taken close to 3 years off from school. I originally attended Florida Atlantic University right after high school. I felt that I wanted to get a degree in something I enjoy doing. After I watched a video online about the Broadcast-Cinema program at MxCC, I knew that’s what I wanted to pursue instantly.

Did you do an internship at MxCC?

I did a summer internship after I graduated. I had to do the internship to complete the program and earn my Associate’s Degree.  I interned at WFSB Channel 3.

How did MxCC prepare you for the workforce?

MxCC really prepared me by giving me a hands on experience with all the equipment.  The faculty were all very helpful and knowledgeable about what it’s like to work in the “real world.”  This was especially important and helpful when applying to work in the media industry.  The faculty and staff in the Broadcast-Cinema department gave me confidence from the feedback I received on my work to be able to go and successfully complete an intense five-hour interview for my current job as full time editor for News 8.

What was your favorite thing about MxCC?
My favorite thing about Mxcc would be the way the classes are so hands-on and that the faculty is always willing to help you with any questions you have. The new media center looks amazing with new up-to-date equipment that is used at news stations and media centers in Connecticut and other states.  Even though I wasn’t there to experience the new things, I still was given real life experience in and out of the classroom. I wrote, shot, and edited my own news packages, created my first short film, and helped edit multiple commercials, and other videos for the MxCC Corporate Media Center. All of this helped build confidence in myself and my skills in the job I was pursuing as editor.  Although I don’t plan to be a news editor for the rest of my life, this job will help me build my editor skill set – and I wouldn’t have this amazing job if it weren’t for MxCC.
