Arts & Media Festival Recap

Last Friday, the Center for New Media hosted the 10th annual Arts and Media Festival. The festival is a showcase of the best student work from the past year in arts and media, primarily from the Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Multimedia, Broadcast-Cinema, and Information Systems programs. The faculty teaching the various courses chose the best works from among the students. Most works will remain on display here throughout the summer.

This year, we had around 200 people that came to see the best student work of the academic year. Artwork including drawings, paintings, and ceramics were on display through the library, the Pegasus Gallery, and the Niche in Founders. In the library periodicals room, students read their poetry and students from the Plays in Production class performed scenes from Tartuffe.

iMacs placed around the library held slideshows of digital work created by students in the Digital Photography, Computer Graphics, Digital Illustration, Digital Page Design, Digital Imaging, Introduction to Digital Arts, and Graphic Design classes. Rows of computers were set up with work created by Web Design and Information Systems students.

After guests had time to mingle and eat delicious food catered by John’s Cafe in Middletown, everyone went upstairs to the multipurpose room to see the media production screenings. These projects featured a wide variety of styles, including narrative films, documentaries, animations, news and information pieces, and experimental works among others.

This year’s show opening film was produced by students, faculty, and staff from the broadcast-cinema department. The video featured a new, experimental format called Taste-o-Vision. Viewers ate flavored jelly beans corresponding to what the people in the film were eating. The film was a huge hit! A link to the video will be shared shortly.
