Tech Talk Series

MxCC’s Center for New Media is partnering with the Distance Learning Office to offer a teaching series leading up to the annual Tech Showcase in April. These Tech Talks are open to CT faculty and staff. Our second session of the FALL 2014 TECH TALK SERIES is on Friday, October 3 and our second session is on Friday, November 14.

Digital Media sprang from the convergence of Art, Science, Business and Technology yielding a new and powerful form of communication which is now recognized as the fastest most effective way to convey a complex idea. This session will explore the opportunities presented by digital media in the classroom; in research collaborations; its importance to the commercial community; and the career advantages experienced by digitally savvy students.

Speaker Biography

Tim Hunter is a Professor and Department Head for the Digital Media and Design program at the University of Connecticut. He is also the Director of the Digital Media Center at UCONN which is the collaborative research space for exploration of Digital Media at UConn. Professor Hunter joined the faculty at the University of Connecticut in the fall of 2007 having spent the previous 25 years developing and producing national and international design projects through his New York City based company. His areas of expertise are in digital animation design & production, digital media design & production, lighting design, scenic design and video projection design. He received his BGS from the University of Michigan in 1979 and MFA from the Yale School of Drama in 1982. He is a current member of United Scenic Artists Local 829 and an Allied Member of the American Institute of Architects.

His digital animation, media design, and production portfolio includes projects for: Boston Children’s Hospital, A/X Armani Exchange, Bacardi, CNN, Comcast, Commerce Bank, Court TV, Dr. Pepper, Euro RSCG, ExxonMobil, 444 Madison Avenue, Facebook, First Republic Bank, Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City, Heineken, ING NYC Marathon, InStyle Magazine, JCDecauxNA, Liberty Travel, McCann Erickson Worldgroup, Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Microsoft, Movado, MSN Direct, Paramount Center, Philips (Color Kinetics), Pfizer, The Related Companies, Robert Wilson, Samsung, Sharp, Sony BMG, Sports Illustrated, Starbucks, TBS, and Time Warner Inc.
