In Pegasus Gallery and the Niche:

Melanie Carr—“Recent Work”

January 17 to March 2, 2018

Middlesex Community College

Reception and artist’s talk: Wednesday, January 24, from 5–7 p.m. in Pegasus Gallery

Melanie Carr’s dynamic art practice includes sculpture, installation, and interactive projects. Viewer-focused forms, materials, space, and the human body are the basis of works that are soft, bright, and visually inviting. Carr describes herself as “consumed with touch, geometry, interactivity, and human experience, yet driven by intuition.” Themes of dialog, play, rest and comfort are also present here in abstractions that that reside within and just outside of everyday experiences.

Carr lives and works in Essex, Conn., where she recently opened a hybrid space dedicated to the practice, exhibition, and promotion of contemporary art and design. Carr has exhibited nationally and in the United Kingdom. She received her associate degree from Middlesex Community College, a bachelor’s from Central Connecticut State University, and her MFA from Lesley University. Carr is on staff at the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts and teaches drawing at Central Connecticut State University. See more of her work at: melaniecarr.com
