Jan. 24, 2019 — Middlesex Community College (MxCC) has been awarded a Gold Level Military Friendly® School designation for 2019–2020. The Gold Level is defined as a school scoring within 10 percent of the 10th-ranked institution in the national survey for their category. For more than a decade, these ratings have set the standard for colleges demonstrating positive employment and education outcomes for veterans and their families. MxCC has been recognized as a Military Friendly® School since 2012 and currently enrolls about 175 student veterans.

“This is the highest rating that any school or college can receive,” said Peter Galgano, MxCC veterans outreach coordinator. “Middlesex is approved for the training of veterans and their families, and eligible students may use VA benefits to pursue a degree or certificate program.”

Recently, Middlesex Community College upgraded the Veterans OASIS Center, a dedicated space on the Middletown campus for veterans and military members to network, socialize, and study. The center has scheduled workshops with the Department of Labor and the VA. MxCC also has a Veterans Club and offers community programs to support veterans. In addition, Purple Heart recipients now have designated VIP parking spots on the Middletown campus.

VIQTORY, the originator of the family of Military Friendly® resources for veterans and their families, recently published the 2019–2010 Military Friendly® designations on their website, and the list will also be published in the May issue of G.I. Jobs magazine.

Since 1966, Middlesex Community College has provided high-quality, affordable, and accessible education to a diverse population, enhancing the strengths of individuals through degree, certificate, and lifelong learning programs that lead to university transfer, employment, and an enriched awareness of our shared responsibilities as global citizens. A part of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities system, MxCC offers more than 70 degree or certificate programs at the main 35-acre campus in Middletown, MxCC@Platt in Meriden, and online.

The Military Friendly® Schools designation process includes extensive research and a data-driven survey of leading colleges nationwide. Ernst & Young, a global leader in assurance, tax, transaction, and advisory services, independently evaluated the scoring methodology used for the Military Friendly® Schools list using the criteria set forth by VIQTORY. Founded in 2001, VIQTORY is a service-disabled, veteran-owned small business that connects the military community to civilian employment, entrepreneurial, and education.
