From Hunger Studies to Tri-Dimensional Printing Technologies, Eastern Medicine, and More: MxCC’s Third Academic Convivium
Apr 24, 2017 – Middletown, Conn.—For the third consecutive year, Middlesex Community College students will make presentations of their original research during the college’s Academic Convivium, which will take place on Friday, April 28, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Founders Hall (Middletown campus). This year’s event will feature keynote speaker, Izzi Greenberg, executive director of Middlesex Coalition for Children, at 11:20 a.m. The convivium will be followed by a special 50th anniversary presentation, “A Conversation with Middlesex Presidents on the First 50 Years,” at 4 p.m. in Chapman Hall, room 808.
“We are so impressed that students and faculty embraced the concept of an academic convivium at MxCC, putting in a tremendous amount of time and effort to participate. Our students’ presentations cover a wide variety of topics relevant to today’s world and demonstrate their ability to apply critical thinking skills to complex problems. The convivum is a culminating celebration of the academic year at Middlesex, and we welcome the public to our campus to be a part of it” said Anna Wasescha, president of MxCC.
Throughout the day, students will make oral presentations in the Founders Hall student lounge during morning and afternoon sessions. They will be available to discuss poster presentations from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the cafeteria and in the pavilion. Posters will be on display and faculty who guided students’ research will also be present. This formal event allows 40 students to showcase their academic research on topics such as biotechnology, social sciences, criminal justice, engineering, education, and more. The public is encouraged to attend this impressive display of academic excellence.
“We are also delighted that after the convivium concludes, in honor of the college’s 50th anniversary, we will be hosting a panel of nine former presidents and interim presidents of Middlesex Community College. They will engage in a lively conversation about the first 50 years of the college. The program will be followed by a reception, and the public is warmly invited to attend,” added Wasescha.
