JAIME MATOS

Jaime wanted to have a degree that would back up the video and film skills he learned as a freelancer. He also wanted to have those skills refined by professionals with more experience than himself. Jaime had previously attended MxCC and received an associate degree in Multimedia. His experience with his professors had a big factor in his return. “They are great at what they do and really connect with the students.” Jaime explained.

Jaime can’t say he has gained a new outlook on life, but he has definitely learned a lot. He really likes all of the instructors but if he had to pick favorites, they would be Rick Eriksen and Dan Nocera. In this field Jaime has learned that it is not about your final grade but about your work portfolio, which can always be improved and revisited.

A deployment that took Jaime to Afghanistan taught him the discipline needed to complete school. His first attempt at college after high school was unsuccessful. After he got out of the military in 2013, Jaime went to MxCC and graduated with honors. From there, he went to Quinnipiac University where he graduated with a bachelor’s in Graphic and Interactive Design. Now he is back at MxCC for more growth and knowledge.

While at MxCC, Jaime has been a member of the Veterans Club, and has also earned a membership to the PTK Club due to his high GPA. Presently, he works at Rico Events and freelances as a photographer and videographer. He is looking forward to taking the New Media Production Class next semester. After graduation, Jaime plans to get a job editing video/film or as a cameraman.

Jaime’s hobby is also his work. He works as a wedding videographer at an event management company but when he is not filming a wedding, Jaime is directing, shooting and editing music videos. He also enjoys making music. Rapping started as a hobby but became an important part of his life and a way to express himself. Jaime has been making music since 2002.  He most enjoys spending time with his wife of 10 years Madeline, 5 year old son Rey and 9 month old Daughter Reina.
