Internal Mail vs. External Mail in Blackboard Learn

Internal Mail - Recommended

In Blackboard Learn, internal email is called Messages. However, your professor may change add a link to Messages in Course Menu and name the link as Mail. For internal email in Blackboard Learn, you can only send and receive mails from students enrolled in the class and your professor who teaches the class.

The Internal Mail (Messages) is commonly used for private conversations with your professor or students in your class. It allows you to send, receive, reply, and forward messages. You can also create folders to organize messages in Inbox.

Your professor may use Internal Mail (Messages) for sending your class assignments, summary, or notes. Students may be asked to submit their assignment as an attachment in Internal Mail.

- We highly recommend students and professor to use Blackboard Internal Mail for mail communication.

External Mail - Not Recommended

In Blackboard Learn, students can email to their professor or classmates via External Mail. The mail sent to External Email will be delivered to the person's email address kept in the college system. Be aware that not EVERY student enters their personal emails in college system and not EVERY student keeps the most updated personal email accounts in the college system. Therefore, the emails sent to External Email in Blackboard might not be checked. Instead, we highly recommend students use Messages -Internal Mail to communicate with their professors and fellow students.
