View, Print, or Save a Non-Web File

This tutorial shows you how to open, print, or save a .ppt -MS PowerPoint file. If you use other web browser such as Firefox or Chrome, the steps are similar. The steps can be used to open or save other types of non-web files in Blackboard. To access a .ppt file, you need to make sure that you have MS PowerPoint installed to your computer.
- In the Table of Contents, click the file Title in the left pane (.ppt file). A dialog box pops up asking either Open or Save the file. (In Firefox or Chrome browser, when you click on the .ppt file link, the file will be downloaded. You will need to go to the Download folder to look for the file.) To view the file, click Open. The file will be displayed in MS PowerPoint window.
- To print the file, go to File and select Print, under Print What, select Handouts and Pure Black&White. You may decide the number of slides per page. If you choose 3, you will print three slides on one page.
- Click OK to confirm.
- To Save the .ppt file, go back to the Learning Module window and click on .ppt file link. Select Save. Locate the folder where you would like to save the file and click on Save.
- To open the PowerPoint file you just saved, minimize the Blackboard window. Locate the file folder and the file. Double-click on the file to open.
Special Notes
Printing or saving other types of non-web files (.rtf, .doc, .docx) may use the same instruction. Be aware that to open a non-web files in Blackboard, you need to have appropriate applications. This table shows you the types of files and the applications needed.
