May 1 Film Premiere at MxCC: Long Island Sound Blue Plan

long islandApril 30, 2019 (Middletown, Conn.) — Middlesex Community College (MxCC) will host the premiere of the Long Island Sound Blue Plan videos on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. in Chapman Hall, Room 808. The video series explores the many facets of the Sound, and how the Blue Plan is protecting each of them while planning for the future.

The college is located at 100 Training Hill Road in Middletown. The event is free and popcorn will be available.

The students and staff of Center for New Media Productions at MxCC helped Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection create six (5-7 minute) videos about the uses of Long Island Sound. The videos will be used to help promote the Long Island Sound Blue Plan – a marine spatial map.

Long Island Sound is Connecticut’s greatest natural resource and an ecological treasure – it supports diverse uses and a variety of species that swim, skitter, burrow, undulate, and soar through its many habitats. Yet despite its economic, ecological, and aesthetic value, there is no coordinated means to manage the Sound as a whole.

The Blue Plan changes this by presenting a collective vision for sustaining what we love about the Sound for generations to come.  For the first time, this initiative identifies and protects Significant Human Use Areas, and Ecologically Significant Areas based on the best available scientific data and stakeholder input.
