March 9, 2022 (Middletown, Conn.) — Middlesex Community College earned a gold ranking in the national Military Friendly® Schools list for 2022–2023 (small community college category). The college has been recognized at different levels every year since 2011—earning gold previously in 2019.
“It is with great honor and pride to be recognized by the Military Friendly organization and receive the prestigious gold distinction this year,” said Peter Galgano, veterans outreach coordinator and U.S. Marine Corps veteran. “Middlesex is approved for the training of veterans and their families, and eligible students may use VA benefits to pursue a degree or certificate program.”
Middlesex provides dedicated space on the Middletown campus—known as the Veterans OASIS Center—for veterans and military members to network, socialize and study. The center schedules workshops with the Department of Labor and the VA. In addition, the college’s Veterans Club offers community programs to support veterans and their families.
Institutions earning the Military Friendly® School designation were evaluated using both public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey. More than 1,800 schools participated in the 2022–2023 survey with 282 earning gold status for their leading practices, outcomes and effective programs. Gold ranking is defined as a school scoring within 10 percent of the 10th-ranked institution in their category.
“Military Friendly® is committed to transparency and providing consistent data-driven standards in our designation process. Our standards provide a benchmark that promotes positive outcomes and support services that better the educational landscape and provide opportunity for the military community,” said Kayla Lopez, director of military partnerships for Military Friendly®. “Schools who achieve awards designation show true commitment in their efforts, going over and above that standard.”
