April 18, 2019 (Middletown, Conn.) — The Middlesex Community College Foundation invites area runners to participate in the 16th Annual Cap and Gown 5K to be held on Friday, May 10, 2019, on the Middletown campus located at 100 Training Hill Road. Race-day registration begins at 4:30 p.m., with a free Kids Fun Run starting at 5:30 p.m. The USATF-certified 5K (3.1 miles) begins at 6 p.m. The event, which is open to the public, also features free pizza, a beer tent, photo booth, and DJ entertainment.
“The MxCC 5K is such a fun event, and I’m looking forward to participating again this year. There’s a great sense of community and something for everyone—families, kids, and road and trail runners alike,” said Christine Ruggiero, an English professor who ran for the first time last year. “Supporting the Cap & Gown 5K supports students at the college, and there’s nothing better than that. I hope a lot of people come out to enjoy the festivities and raise money for the college’s foundation.”
Register now at https://mxcc.edu/5k/. Sign up before April 30 to be entered to win a Sound Runner gift card. After April 30 through race day, the entry fee will be $30. Kids Fun Run is free. MxCC student fee is $20. Prizes will be awarded at a 6:45 p.m. ceremony to overall 5K champions (men and women), alumni, students, faculty/staff winners (men and women), and the top three men and women in each age division.
The scenic 5K route follows beautiful tree-lined roads along the reservoirs behind the Middletown campus. Free tank tops will be given to the first 100 registrants. The 5K race is chip-timed by Empire Timing Co. Non-runners have the option to walk the route instead of doing a timed run. Cap and gown costumes are welcome.
The event is presented by the Middlesex Community College Foundation in partnership with the Middlesex YMCA.
Sponsors and volunteers are also needed. Community sponsors help support the Foundation’s mission of advancing MxCC as educational resource for the community it serves. Volunteers assist with setup, registration, cheering on participants, and more. For more information, please email mx-mxcc5k@mxcc.edu or call 860-343-5789.
