Hello, I'm Kim Hogan the Dean of Administration at Middlesex Community College and I have been named the COVID-19 coordinator for our campus. Welcome back to all faculty, staff, and students, and a very special to welcome to all of you that are coming to Middlesex for the first time this fall.

[A SERIES OF VIDEOS QUICLY SWITCH THROUGH-FOUNDERS HALL ENTRANCE, GUARD SITTING AT DESK, SIGN ON WALL THAT INDICATES ROOM CAPACITY, LEARNING COMMONS SEATING WITH MARKERS, STAIRS WITH ‘WAIT HERE’ MARKERS, HAND CLEANING COMPUTER KEYBOARD WITH WIPE, COMPUTER CLASSROOM, TEACHING ZONE FLOOR MARKER, SIGNS ASKING YOU TO WEAR MASKS]
When you come to campus you will notice we have taken several steps to make our campus as safe as possible to protect us against the coronavirus, commonly referred to as COVID-19 or COVID for short. This short video is intended to explain what to expect when coming back to campus in the fall. You will likely first notice that we have signs posted at every entrance that you need to wear a mask while on campus.

[ANIMATION- BLOND WHITE YOUNG MAN AND MUSLIM YOUNG WOMAN, BOTH WEARING MASKS STAND IN ART CLASSROOM. TEXT ON SCREEN SAYS “MASKS MUST BE WORN OVER THE MOUTH AND NOSE.”]
This requirement is to protect one another from spreading the virus. Masks must be properly worn meaning that your nose and mouth are covered.

[LIVE VIDEO OF KIM TALKING]
Wearing a neck scarf or a bandana on your head is not the appropriate way to wear a mask.

[ANIMATION OF BLACK WOMAN OUTSIDE WITH MASK BELOW HER NOSE. TEXT ON SCREEN SAYS “ YOU MUST NOT LEAVE YOUR NOSE UNCOVERED.”]
Having the mask below your nose is also not the proper way to wear it. When we wear masks we keep one another safe.

[VIDEO OF SENTRY GUARD SEATED AT DESK HIGHLIGHTING LIST.]
When entering the buildings you will see we have new friends to greet us. There will be a sentry guard located at the entrance way to each building.

[LIVE VIDEO OF KIM TALKING]
They are there to check IDs and to sign you in and out as you come and go through the buildings.

[FLOOR MARKING “ENTER ONLY, ONE WAY” WITH ARROW]
Please maintain professionalism, wait your turn in line, and comply with showing of your college ID.

[ANIMATION OF YOUNG BLOND MAN WEARING MASKS AND GLOVES INDICATING A PICTURE OF ID CAR AND TEXT “MAKE SURE TO HAVE YOUR COLLEGE ID READY FOR SECURITY.]
College issued ID cards should be worn at all times. If you need a new ID, please get one from the Communications Center in Founders Hall.

Speaking of waiting in line, you will notice we have floor decals indicating to social distance six feet apart from one another. Wait here markers and then a series of blue dots are lining the hallways. These dots are meant to mark the proper social distance of six feet between one another when waiting to get into class or to wait wherever there may be a line formed. Please do your best to maintain six feet of distance wherever feasible to do so.

[VIDEO OF CLASSROOM DECALS AND LAYOUTS, SIGNS]
As for feasibility of maintaining six feet of separation, you will see that there are the same blue dot markers in the classrooms to indicate which seats you may sit in, in order to keep you properly distanced while in class. When you enter the classroom please proceed to the open dotted seat farthest into the room so that your fellow classmates can file in behind you to avoid congestion in the aisles. Faculty will do their best to maintain their space and mark teaching zones. Please refrain from moving furniture around so the class coming in next has the same opportunity you did for social distancing.

[ANIMATION OF BROWN HAIRED GIRL WEARING MASK AND GLOVES STANDING IN CLASSROOM WITH HAND SANITIZER BOTTLE. BEHIND HER IS A DESK, CHAIRS, BOOKS ON A SHELF, AND A GREEN BOARD THAT SAYS “EACH CLASSROOM IS OUTFITTED WITH HAND SANITIZER STATIONS.]
Each classroom is outfitted with hand sanitizer stations and wipes.

[VIDEO OF A PACKET OF ALCOHOL WIPES]
Before going to your seat grab a wipe to make sure you can clean the area you were about to sit in as an extra precaution.

[VIDEO OF HAND WIPING COMPUTER KEYBOARD WITH WIPE]
If you were in a computer classroom there will be appropriate wipes available to wipe the keyboard and mouse before each use. This is an extra step that will need to be factored into the beginning of each class.

[VIDEO OF MAN KNOCKING ON RED RESTROOM DOOR WHICH HAS SIGN POSTED THAT READS “COVID 19 RESTROOM ETIQUETTE PLEASE KNOCK ON THE OUTER DOOR BEFORE ENTERING. DO YOUR BEST TO ALLOW FOR SOCIAL DISTANCING. WHENEVER POSSIBLE, PLEASE ALLOW THE OTHER PERSON TO VACATE BEFORE ENTERING. THANK YOU.” MAN PUSHES OPEN DOOR AND WALKS INTO RESTROOM.]
Okay, back to other markers you will see around campus- in the restrooms you will notice a request to knock before entering to see if anyone else is in the room. You may enter if the room is empty or someone else is in a stall. If there's someone just finishing up at the sink or using the urinal, please maintain your distance, allow them to finish, and exit before you go in.

[VIDEO OF HAND WASHING SIGN. MAN QUICKLY SCRUBBING AND WASHING HANDS.]
There are good hand washing reminders posted in each restroom. Take a minute to read up on ways to keep yourself safe and minimize the potential spread of the COVID virus.

[SUCCESSION OF VIDEOS- WOMAN WEARING MASK BEHIND PLEXIGLASS BARRIER IN THE ENROLLMENT SERVICES OFFICE, LIBRARY FRONT DESK WITH PLEXIGLASS BARRIER]
In many of the office areas you will notice we have installed plexiglas shields to minimize any transfer of the virus when talking within the offices. The same is true of our open public spaces such as the Learning Commons. Speaking of our Learning Commons, there are many changes that we had to implement in that space.

[LEARNING COMMON COUCH WITH YELLOW MARKERS FOR WHERE TO SIT AND VIDEO OF OTHER FURNITURE AND MARKINGS IN THE LEARNING COMMON AREA, THEN VIDEO OF COMPUTER STATIONS]
Aside from the plexiglas dividers, seating has been arranged to accommodate social distancing. Our colleagues working in that area have done a wonderful job to make it possible to check out books, laptops, and other items, as well as to do your research. While in the library area, the computer lab is open and you can make an appointment to reserve time to work on campus in this space.

In Founders Hall the cafeteria is going to remain closed. Please prepare by bringing food from home or using the various vending options on campus.

[VIDEO OF SIGN INDICATING GAME ROOM IS CLOSED FOLLOWED BY PANNED VIDEO OF EMPTY PAVILION]
Unfortunately, the game room will also not be open this semester, seating in the cafeteria, pavilion, and student lounge will be limited for social distancing purposes but there will be open areas to sit in those spaces. The pavilion deck will also be open, weather permitting.

[LIVE VIDEO OF KIM]
Finally, this one is more of an administrative minded task-

[ANIMATION OF COUGHING MAN AND WOMAN. TEXT SAYS “DO NOT COME TO CAMPUS IF YOU ARE SICK!”]
if you should find that you have symptoms of COVID-19 infection please do not come to campus. Please stay at home and seek medical attention as necessary.

[LIVE VIDEO OF KIM]
Also, if you find that you have to travel and need to self-quarantine, please do so.

[ILLUSTRATION OF CHECKLIST WITH TEXT THAT SAYS “IF YOU HAVE BEEN ILL OR YOU HAVE TRAVELED RECENTLY OUTSIDE OF THE STATE, YOU MUST COMPLETE THE SELF-DISCLOSURE FORMS FOUND ON OUR WEBSITE AT MXCC.EDU/CORONAVIRUS”]
In both of these instances you need to complete the self-disclosure forms found on the website at mxcc.edu/coronavirus.
