Preparations - Log On To Blackboard Learn

1. System Requirements
- For browsers that are compatible with Blackboard Learn, click here (under Blackboard ULTRA supported browsers).

2. Your NetID and password

Open a web browser and go to my.commnet.edu. You may need to clean out your browser "history" to acess the site. Enter your NetID and Password.
NetID : BannerID@student.commnet.edu - Do not know your NetID? Click here to find out!
Password: The same password to log on to a campus computer at any of 12 Connecticut community colleges.
If you have never logged on to a campus computer, the initial password is a combination of your first 3 letters of birth month (capitalize the first letter), & (shift+7), and the last four digits of your social security number **.
For example, if you are born in April and the last four digits of your social security number are 4575, then your initial password is Apr&4575 (case sensitive).

After you logon with the initial password, you will be prompted to change to a new password. The new password MUST have 8 or more characters and satisfy 3 of the 4 rules as follows:

Upper case
Lower case
Numbers
Special characters

One example of a new password is Flower22 (case sensitive). Remember; do not use your name or birthday in the new password.

If you are not able to log in to the site, click here to have the issue resolved.
**If this initial password does not work, click on “reset it now” or “Forgot my password”, enter your NetID and the verification characters and click on Next. You will be reminded that a verification code is sent to your personal email. Logon to your personal email to retrieve the verification code. Enter the verification code to create a new set of password. Follow the new password rule to create a new password. Then you will use this password to log on to my.commnet.edu.

3. Inability to access to the Blackboard Learn course site

Seven days before the first day of a class starts, if you do not see your course listed on Blackboard My Institution page and you have officially registered the course more than 24 hours, contact the Distance Learning Department (Chapman College Library area), (860)-343-5756 or mxccdistance@mxcc.commnet.edu) with your Name, Banner ID, course Title, Course Name, Course CRN you registered.

If your course is listed on My Institution page, but when you click on it, you see the following message:

"Your instructor has denied access." You are currently denied access to your class by your instructor.

You should contact your instructor. To know who your course instructor is, log on to MyCommNet at my.commnet.edu. Click on Banner Student & Faculty Self-Service. Click on Middlesex Community College. Click on Registration/Schedule tab. Click on Term Selection and select the current term. Select Student Schedule. Click on Student Detail Schedule. Next to the course instructor's name, you will see an email icon. Right-click on the email icon and select Copy Email Address. Log on to your college email - link in MyCommNet. Create a new message. You will then paste the instructor's email to the "To" box. Type the message and send it to your instructor.

4. Reset your password
If you have trouble logging in with the NetID and password, you may reset your password at https://passwordreset.microsoftonline.com or call (stop by with your photo ID) the following offices to have your password reset, Mon-Fri, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm. Outside our office hours you may call 866-723-0221 to have your password reset.
