Sep 1, 2017 – Middlesex Community College announced CTtransit bus service is now available for students to travel to the new MxCC@Platt facility at Platt High School in Meriden. The bus route #565 (West Main Street) departs the Meriden railroad station and stops right at the MxCC entrance, arriving at 2:40 p.m., 4 p.m. and 5:10 p.m. Additional return service is still being negotiated for next semester.
On Tuesday, the first day of classes, State Senator Len Suzio and MxCC’s Dean of Academic Affairs and Interim President Steve Minkler welcomed the first students who arrived for classes at the new Middlesex location in Meriden.
“One of the concerns from moving the MxCC location from downtown Meriden to Platt High School was getting students to take public transportation. Thanks to Sen Suzio, Meriden officials, the Department of Transportation and North East Transportation, the West Main Street bus is now making a loop over to Platt,” said Dean Minkler. “Having regularly scheduled bus service to Platt will help our students attend the classes they need as part of their college program.”
As State Senator Suzio greeted the growing line of Meriden MxCC students, he told them about the recent renovations at the high school facility and gave them directions to the MxCC classrooms on the second floor.
“Once more people see how great this facility is, more people will attend, and enrollment will go up,” said State Senator Suzio.
Last spring, Middlesex Community College announced a one-year pilot program in partnership with the Meriden Board of Education to offer college classes in a variety of courses from the general education curriculum, with a selection of courses leading into MxCC degree programs in communication, computer science, digital arts, early childhood education, human services and veterinary technology.
