March 12, 2018 — The Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society, Beta Gamma Xi chapter at Middlesex Community College, received several awards at PTK’s New England Regional Convention held in Manchester, Conn., on March 9 and 10, 2018.
On behalf of the chapter, MxCC students York Clement of Berlin and Laura Schneider of Middletown accepted the awards that included the Most Distinguished Chapter Officer Team Award (First Place), Most Distinguished Honors in Action Project Award (Second Finalist), Most Distinguished Chapter Award (Second Finalist), Honors in Action Distinguished Theme Award (Peace and War), and the Five Star Level Award.
“PTK opens doors to many scholarships for students who are recognized by their higher achievements, and it gives access to a variety of tools that, if well used, engenders phenomenal results for the participants,” said MxCC student Messanvi Amenounve of Meriden. Amenounve was also honored with an award for his service and dedication to the region, having served as the Central New England regional officer for 2017-18.
“I was able to hold several educational forums on competitive edge, and scholarship for other students, to explain how to sharpen their soft skills and on how to prepare their scholarship applications. Thanks to PTK, I was able to do many things I could not have done if I did not join,” added Amenounve. He will attend UConn in the fall.
The PTK 2017 Chapter Officer Team consisted of MxCC students Zoraida Castillo, Brittney Cotrona, Rocky Dehart, Alexander Foster, Alan Marshall, and Michael Perrotti.
“The college is incredibly proud of our Phi Theta Kappa students and advisers for being recognized for their achievements, and the overall excellence of the Beta Gamma Xi Chapter at MxCC,” said Steven Minkler, the lead campus administrator at Middlesex. “Their hard work has been instrumental in creating vibrant student life that is committed to service at our college, in our system, and in the region.”
MxCC faculty members Lin Lin (PTK Regional board member), Landi Hou, and Donna Bontatibus serve as PTK co-advisers.
The PTK MxCC chapter’s annual induction ceremony will be held on April 20, 2018. The chapter is one of 55 PTK chapters in New England. For more information about PTK, please visit www.ptk.org.
