Two Middlesex Community College students, Messanvi Amenouve of Meriden and Susan Girouard of West Hartford, were recognized for their academic achievements and leadership accomplishments on Friday, April 28, 2017, at the State Capitol during the annual All-Connecticut Academic Team awards ceremony. Amenouve and Girouard are accounting majors and members of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the international honor society of two-year colleges.
Twenty students from 10 Connecticut community colleges, along with one student from St. Vincent’s College, received certificates and medallions. The All-Connecticut Academic Team recognizes the outstanding scholarly achievements and leadership accomplishments of students enrolled in Connecticut’s community and junior colleges. The students chosen for the state team also represented the state of Connecticut in the All-USA Academic Competition, sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa and USA Today.
The MxCC students were nominated by PTK advisers Lin Lin, Donna Bontatibus, and Landi Hou who, along with accounting professor Nancy Kelly, attended the ceremony in Hartford.
The awards ceremony was sponsored by Northwestern Connecticut Community College, the Board of Regents for Higher Education, and Phi Theta Kappa. The mission of Phi Theta Kappa is to recognize academic achievement of college students and to provide opportunities for them to grow as scholars and leaders.
